Lamas and Raqchi chosen among the best tourist towns in the world

Peru doesn’t stop placing interesting tourist destinations in the eye of the world. On this occasion, the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) chose Lamas, in the San Martín region, and Raqchi, in the Cusco region, among the best towns for tourism worldwide in 2022.

Thus, within a selection that chose another 30 tourist destinations, two attractions of our country appear on this list. In this sense, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), through Minister Luis Fernando Helguero, added that this global recognition should invite us to continue taking strategies to promote domestic tourism, since it is of vital importance as a generator of jobs work in different regions of our country.

How were Lamas and Raqchi chosen? For both towns to appear on this list, they had to be analyzed by an advisory council based on the following criteria: natural and cultural resources, promotion and conservation of resources, social, economic and environmental sustainability, tourism development.

It should be noted that the initiative "Mejores Pueblos Turísticos" or "Best Tourism Villages" is the most relevant project of the UNWTO and seeks to guarantee that regional inequalities are reduced from tourism. In addition, it drives innovation, improves connectivity and promotes sustainable practices.

Let us remember that Lamas had already received recognition last October by the Mincetur as "Charming Town". In this way, he became the first in the jungle to receive it and the second nationally. Likewise, Raqchi is considered one of the most intelligent engineering works of the Incas for having attractions such as the Temple of Wiracocha or the Inca Pantheon.
