Uyuni is the largest and highest salt desert in the world, as well as being the largest lithium deposit on the planet, which makes it an important area not only in terms of tourism, but also economically and geopolitically. Here we can find two well-defined seasons: the rainy season, which allows the famous mirror of water; and the dry one, which allows you to explore it by car without restriction. Obviously, the Salar de Uyuni is visually attractive for any tourist due to the majesty of the panorama it presents. The length of the Salar de Uyuni exceeds 10 thousand kilometers. In addition, it is located between the Potosí and Oruro regions in southeastern Bolivia.

How was the Salar de Uyuni formed? According to several researchers, Uyuni is formed as a result of transformations between several prehistoric lakes. When the lake dried up, it left behind two famous lakes: Poopó and Uru Uru. In this way, two great deserts were formed: the Salar de Coipasa and the famous Salar de Uyuni. The depth of the salt flat is around 120 meters and it is made up of up to 11 layers of salt, each one of a different thickness.

The Salar de Uyuni is one of the tourist attractions that receives the most visitors with around 60 thousand visitors a year. This great destination has different moments to enjoy. For example, watching the sunrise in Uyuni gives you a panorama with wonderful colors and is obviously one of the best ways to start the day in a place like this. And then? Well, the salt flat awaits more attractions such as La Isla Incahuasi or El Cementerio de Trenes.

Without a doubt, Salar de Uyuni has thousands of wonders to discover. The best fun lies in enjoying the perfect mirror reflection that can be witnessed and that has been usual to capture it in photographs by different tourists. To get to Uyuni, it can be accessed by flight from La Paz, or by train from Oruro or by road from Atacama in neighboring Chile. Staying overnight in one of the salt hotels is the most popular accommodation option, but there are also traditional hotels in the town and campers that stay on the shores of the salt flat.
