Machu Picchu: a wonder of Peru

If we talk about Machu Picchu, it is inevitable to mention that it is one of the seven wonders of the world and that Peru is fortunate to have it in its territory. Machu Picchu is located exactly in the Cusco region and is one of the most visited attractions by both national and foreign tourists. This cultural and natural heritage of humanity, which still houses different mysteries, is made up of majestic and large blocks of stones that represent the religious, political and cultural center of the famous and historical Inca empire.

Machu Picchu was discovered in 1911 and although its discovery is attributed to different historians, Hiram Bingham is mentioned as the main architect of such an important discovery. In addition, this tourist attraction is divided into two main areas. On the one hand, the agricultural sector that is characterized by an extensive network of platforms and terraces. On the other hand, the urban sector that consists of magnificent constructions based on large historical stones such as the Temple of the Sun.

An equally wonderful story

The Inca citadel dates its construction around 1450 and still has thousands of unresolved mysteries that represent one of the main attractions for tourists and historians. Now, there are various theories about what this historic sanctuary meant for the Incas. Some point out that it was built as a mausoleum for the Inca Pachacútec, but in turn, others maintain that for many years Machu Picchu served as an agricultural and administrative center where its lands served as a place of cultivation for the population. In addition, they point out that it was also used as a connection between the jungle and the Andes or as a resting place for the Inca.

The concrete thing is that Machu Picchu symbolizes one of the main tourist attractions of the country due to its historical charge and the impressive architecture that shows the audacity of our ancestors.

The tour

To access Machu Picchu, you have to take a train either from the city of Cusco or from Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley. Once we arrive at the town of Machu Picchu, you must take a bus that takes approximately half an hour to reach the main entrance.
