Peru wins four awards at the 2024 World Travel Awards South America

Peru continues to accumulate prestigious awards. This time, the citadel of Machu Picchu, one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World, reaffirms its position as a tourism icon of the country by receiving international recognition. It was named 'South America’s Leading Tourist Attraction 2024' at the 2024 World Travel Awards South America.

The World Travel Awards (WTA) are known as the Oscars of Tourism, honoring excellence in tourism and travel worldwide. Winners are selected through online public voting and expert industry opinions, giving them special significance. Winning a WTA is a mark of quality and prestige in the tourism industry.

Marca Peru from Promperu reported that this is the seventh consecutive occasion that Machu Picchu has received this coveted award. In addition to its tourism relevance, this award highlights Peru's cultural importance in world history, according to Marca Peru.

This new recognition for Peru's tourism emblem, also declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983, adds to awards received in 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, and 2018.

However, Peru received not only this recognition at the prestigious event organized by the World Travel Awards. It was also honored for its remarkable cultural richness, incomparable gastronomy, and impressive tourist attractions, as emphasized by Marca Peru from Promperu.

Peru won in the categories of 'South America’s Leading Culinary Destination 2024', 'South America’s Leading Cultural Destination 2024', and 'South America’s Leading Destination 2024', while Machu Picchu was chosen as 'South America’s Leading Tourist Attraction 2024'.
